The New Year always causes me to do some self reflecting, on a personal level and on a business level. Something about the opportunity that each new year presents engages my thoughts. As I gear up for business 2011 there are the questions I’m asking myself and mulling over. What was exciting about this year? What did I learn? And where do I want go in 2011?
What was exciting about this year?
I transitioned my career this year leaving a fantastic book marketing company where I learned so much and began working for Taz Solution’s. For me this was a great journey and leap of faith to advance my career. My previous job (which I loved) was working with authors and book publishing companies doing PR and online branding. Now at Taz I am utilizing all my past skills while growing my knowledge of building a brand from the ground up! I get to be involved in the message and help create the brand, the website design, SEO, Joint Venture’s and more. It has been a tremendous learning experience that I am enjoying!
What did I learn?
I learned, that we are always learning, especially when your job involves the Web. Just having a web site where clients offer their content and services is not enough. People need to know where you are, which is especially important for local business. While Mom and Pop stores are on the rise across America, it’s so important that local business’s be online and do at least little marketing.
For example, if you’re opening a new restaurant and you specialize in Italian food, you would get more folks coming into your restaurant to eat if the restaurant had a website and did a little SEO. I Googled “Greenville SC, restaurants” and I got a huge listing, then I googled “Greenville SC Italian restaurants” and I got a specific listing. High quality SEO would have the restaurant coming up on both searches.
Even small towns are surrounded by big ones and attracting new customers no matter the service can be difficult. Local businesses should really be investing in a website, online marketing and SEO.
If there was no Yellow Brick road to follow, Dorothy and her cast of characters never would have gotten to Oz.
Where do I want to go in 2011?
I want to continue to grow and learn from my coworkers and clients.
I want to continue to work with clients that are ready to transition and let go of what no longer serves them. It takes a great amount of courage to seek out marketing/ branding help and revitalize one’s brand.
I want to get the services my clients offer out in the hands of those who need them. I get to work with great clients that have services that truly help people. Bridging the gap is my job and I love it.
I want to work with more localized clients and get them customers in their stores, restaurants, or place of business.
For luck, I will be eating some black eyed pea’s on New Year’s Day and maybe even put on Boom Boom Pow, by The Black Eyed Pea’s for extra luck. Either way, I wish you and yours success in your business ventures in 2011. May it top the chart’s like Boom Boom Pow.
